Tale: The Devil wakes the Sultan up for prayer.

I heard this in a Homily by Fr. Gregory today. It moved me so much, i couldn’t help but share it.

One morning, a sultan finds it very difficult to wake up at the hour of prayer early in the morning. Deciding to forego prayer that morning, he gets a forceful tap on his shoulder telling him “wake up, its time for prayer, and it is good that you pray….

Curious, he asks: “Well, who are you, to tell me what to do?

The stranger replies: “I am the devil”.

That sure did awake him. Perplexed, he wonders: Well why do YOU of all people care if I wake up for prayer?

“Oh well, that’s simple” interjects the devil “With perfect attendance at prayer, I can easily get you through self-righteousness and pride down the line…. but if you miss a prayer this morning, regret with a heart full of sorrow will catalyze a stronger bond with God, then I really wont have a chance”

I wish I recorded the audio of today’s Homily.
